Jim Witherspoon concentrates his practice on U.S. and international patent preparation and prosecution, as well as patent-related opinion work. He has extensive experience working with foreign associates to obtain foreign patent protection, and to obtain U.S. patents claiming priority to foreign patent applications. He has an extremely broad base of technical experience that includes mechanical arts, materials, electromechanical, software, optics, ornamental designs, business methods, fluid dynamics, medical devices and power generation. Jim also has experience in other intellectual property areas.
Prior to practicing law, Jim worked in the Nuclear Production Department of the Duke Power Company (now Duke Energy) where he served as the corporate coordinator for the in-service testing of safety-related pumps and valves at the company’s nuclear stations, and provided general engineering support with an emphasis on the enhancement of thermal performance of nuclear stations.
